Peanut Sauce II image

Gingery and slightly spicy, this is my family's favorite peanut sauce.

Number Of Ingredients 11

¼ cup vegetable oil
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger root
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
1 cup peanut butter
1 ¼ cups water
¼ cup tamari or soy sauce
3 tablespoons honey
¼ cup fresh basil leaves, cut into thin strips
3 fresh basil leaves for garnish

Steps:

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in onion; cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic, jalapeno pepper, and ginger; cook and stir for 2 minutes more.
  • Stir in peanut butter, water, tamari, and honey until smooth. Add shredded basil. Heat through, and remove from heat. Garnish with whole basil leaves, if desired.
