ORANGE KANTEN (JAPANESE DESSERT) image

This japanese dessert is made with the powdered agar-agar. Kanten is a regular dessert on the New Years Menu and is delicious and healthy.

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 tsp kanten (agar-agar) powder
1 1/4 c water
3 Tbsp sugar
1 1/4 c orange juice
1 orange, peeled and sectioned

Steps:

  • 1. In a medium saucepan, combine water and kanten powder on medium-heat and bring to a boil to dissolve the powder, stirring well.
  • 2. Turn the heat down to low and simmer for about 5 minutes, add in the sugar and turn off the heat.
  • 3. Add in the orange juice and stir well.
  • 4. Place orange slices in individual jelly molds or glass bowls and pour the jelly mixture over the orange slices.
  • 5. Refrigerate until set.
