Steps:
- Cream shortening with molasses. Add egg. Mix all dry ingredients and add with milk. Beat to a stiff dough. Roll out to thickness of pie dough. Cut with cake pan (like cookie dough or biscuits.) Place the rounds of dough on a cookie sheet and bake 12 to 15 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes about nine layers. Place round on plate and cover with applebutter or jam. Place next round and do the same. Continue until all layers (or more) are used. Cover in foil and place in fridge for 24 to 72 hours to allow soaking of the cakes.
