OLD FASHIONED BREAD PUDDING image

This is a recipe from Land of Lakes site. It is close to the one Mother used to make.

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 c cubed white bread (about 8 slices)
1/2 c raisins
2 c milk
1/4 c butter
1/2 c sugar
2 large eggs, slightly beaten
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees
  • 2. Combine bread and raisins in bowl. Set aside.
  • 3. Combine milk and 1/4 cup butter in 1 quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat 4-7 minutes or until butter is melted. Pour milk over bread. Let stand 10 minutes.
  • 4. Stir in all remaining pudding ingredients Pour into greased 1 1/2 quart casserole. Bake 40-50 minutes or until set in center.
  • 5. Sauce ingredients- 1/2 cup butter. 1/2 cup sugar, 1:2 cup firmly packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, 1 Tablespoons vanilla
  • 6. Combine sauce ingredients except vanilla, in 1 quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally 5-8 minutes or until mixture thickens and comes to full boil. Stir in vanilla.
