This is a wonderful fruit cake. It is my friend's secret family recipe, after I tasted it I begged and begged for the recipe. After a couple of years of having me beg, she finally relented and gave me this recipe. It is many years old so there were not packaged and chopped fruit available. It was a lot of work to make. I'm putting it here so I don't lose it.

Steps:
- Pour sugar on apples in large bowl, let stand at least 25 mins or overnight. Add salad oil, eggs. Stir well. Sift dry ingredients together and onto apple mixture. Add nuts, dates, cherries. Pour into well greased and floured angel food cake pan. Bake at 325 for 1 3/4 to 2 hours.
