Time 2h

Yield 3 quarts, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 lb bacon
2 diced onions
2 bell peppers
6 garlic cloves
2 lbs ground beef
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons chili powder
3 cups beef broth
28 ounces crushed tomatoes
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 (1 1/4 ounce) packages chili seasoning mix

Steps:

  • Place bacon in a large pot or Dutch oven and cook over medium heat until crisp and cooked through. Remove bacon to a paper towel lined plate use remaining grease to fry onions & peppers. Crumble cooked bacon & put aside.
  • Add onion and pepper and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add garlic and cook until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
  • Add beef, breaking apart with a spatula as you cook. Once meat is partially (about 50%) browned, add sugar and all spices and stir well.
  • Add all remaining ingredients - beef broth, tomatoes, tomato paste, chilis, and Worcestershire sauce - and your cooked bacon and stir well.
  • Bring to a boil and cook 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally. Simmer for 60 minutes to allow flavor to really develop.
  • Serve with preferred toppings (sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and corn chips are a must!).
  • NOTE: this is best served a day or even 2 later!
