Monte Cristo Sandwich image

The Monte Cristo is my husbands favorite sandwich. He gets it whenever we visit Disneyland, at the Blue Bayou. However, that's only about once every 3-5 years so I created our own version of this tasty treat. You won't be disappointed.

Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 14

18 slice white bread
6-12 Tbsp mayonnaise
12 slice deli turkey
12 slice deli ham
12 slice gouda
6 eggs
1 Tbsp whipping cream
3 Tbsp butter
6 Tbsp vegetable oil
OPTIONAL:
grape jelly
raspberry jelly
vanilla cream dipping sauce
powdered sugar, to sprinkle on top

Steps:

  • 1. Lay out two pieces of bread and spread desired amount of mayo on each slice (I like about 1/2 T on each slice). Pile on 1 slice of turkey, 1 slice of ham, and 1 slice of cheese. Put the third slice of bread on one stack than flip over the second pile, cheese side down. Using a knife, cut the crust off the sandwich, wrap the sandwich tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Do this for all 6 sandwiches.
  • 2. Combine eggs and whipping cream in a bowl. Beat. Set aside.
  • 3. Heat 1 T butter and 2T oil in pan. Work in batches of 2 sandwiches each, unwrap sandwich, dip in egg mixture, and place in pan. Flip after 2 minutes. Cook 2 minutes more the, using tongs, fry the edges. Place on cookie sheet in oven to keep warm. Do this same process for batch 2 and 3.
  • 4. Serve with grape jelly, raspberry jelly, and vanilla sauce.
