Monkey Brains -Abehjerne (Danish) image

Don't be afraid of the strange name, this is a popular Danish recipe. It's a really tasty dish that most kids enjoy, perhaps in part because of the funny name. It's quick, easy, and cheap to prepare Serve with noodles or mashed potatoes.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/3 lb bacon, cut into squares
2 large yellow onions, sliced
1/2 lb lean ground beef
1 can(s) (15 oz.) diced tomatoes
1 c half and half
1/3 lb cocktail sausages (little smokies)
salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Fry bacon until browned, and place on a plate when done.
  • 2. Brown the sliced onions in the bacon fat.
  • 3. Add ground beef.
  • 4. Add bacon, and tomatoes.
  • 5. Add half-and-half.
  • 6. Add salt and pepper.
  • 7. Add cocktail sausages.
  • 8. Cover and simmer for 20 min.
