Mom's Sticky Buns image

Mom would make these quite often in the winter along with bread, and coffee cakes. I carried on that tradition while my kids were growing up.

Number Of Ingredients 16

I package(s) yeast
1/4 cup(s) warm water
1 cup(s) scalded milk
2 tablespoon(s) sugar
2 tablespoon(s) shortning plus 1 egg
1 teaspoon(s) salt
3 1/2 cup(s) flour
FILLING
1/2 cup(s) sugar
1/4 cup(s) melted butter
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
TOPPING
4 tablespoon(s) butter
I cup(s) brown sugar
1 cup(s) chopped nuts (your favorite walnuts, peacans)
1/2 cup(s) maple syrup

Steps:

  • Soften yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.
  • Combine sugar salt , shortning and milk, cool till Luke warm.
  • Add 1 cup flour beat well, Add yeast and 1 egg beating well
  • Add remaining flour to form soft dough. Cover let rise till double 1 1/2 -2 hours.
  • Mix Cinnamon and sugar for filling, melt butter.
  • Divide dough in half, roll out one half of dough to a 16x8 rectangle using half of melted butter spread on dough sprinkle half of the cinnamon and sugar over dough roll up like jelly roll seal edge cut in 1 inch rounds. Repeat with second dough
  • In a round cake pan melt 1 /2 of topping ingredients add nuts .
  • Place rounds on top of filling. Let rise till double in size bake in 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or tops are brown. Remove from oven turn upside down on wire rack.
