MOM’S MACARONI & CHEESE image

Number Of Ingredients 13

12 oz Hearty wide egg noodles (Muellers), cooked following package directions
Ingredients 1:
2 Tbs finely chopped onion
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese -see note
¾ cup Breakstone Sour Cream (not low fat)
Thin White Sauce:
2 Tbs butter
1 ½ Tbs (4 ½ tsp) flour
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
2 cups lowfat milk

Steps:

  • For thin white sauce: Melt butter in saucepan over low heat. Blend in flour, salt and pepper. Cook over low hear, stirring until mixture is smooth and bubbly. Remove from heat. Stir in milk until well blended. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute. Add Ingredients 1 to the prepared Thin White Sauce (off heat) and mix until cheese is melted. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Cook noodles as directed on package. Combine prepared cheese sauce with noodles. Transfer to casserole and bake covered with aluminum foil for 30-40 minutes. Notes: I make double batch and bake in 9 x 13 inch glass pan.
