Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 Tbsp dark molasses
1 c minus 2 tablespoon milk
1 1/2 Tbsp sugar
3 1/3 c all purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1 pinch ground ginger

Steps:

  • 1. Heat the molasses and milk together in a saucepan. In a medium bowl mix all dry ingredients together. Add milk until a soft dough is achieved. You may not need all the milk. With floured hands, shape into a round cake-like loaf about 1 1/2 inches thick. Cut across the top only about 1/2 down into farls (quarters), put on a floured baking sheet, sprinkle a little flour on top, and bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes.
