Homemade Angel Food Cake image

This is oh so delicious. So much better than out of a box. It is great with strawberries and ice cream too.

Number Of Ingredients 8

3/4 cup(s) all purpose flour
3/4 cup(s) sugar
1 1/2 cup(s) egg whites, approx. 12 large
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon(s) almond extract
3/4 cup(s) additional sugar

Steps:

  • Place oven rack in lowest position. Pre heat oven to 375 degrees.
  • In a small bowl, combine flour and 3/4 cup of sugar. In a large mixing bowl, combine egg whites, cream of tartar, vanilla, salt, and almond extract, beat at high speed till soft peaks form. Gradually add the other 3/4 cup of sugar and beat on high till stiff peaks form.
  • Spoon flour mixture, 1/4 cup at a time, folding in each time till blended. Pour batter into ungreased 10 inch tube pan, with a knife, gently cut through batter to remove any large air bubble.
  • Bake on lowest rack for 35 minutes or till crust is golden brown. Turn pan upside down on a glass bottle and let cool for about an hour.
