I tried a recipe in this little Amish cookbook, Buggy Wheel Restaurant Cookbook, that I picked up in Shipshewana, IN. But, it asked for something I was unfamiliar with, so I took it to the grocery store. Except, it was lost en route. I thought the cookbook was gone forever, but our neighbor found it (the next spring) and brought it back to me. It's a little dented, but I found this recipe in it. Beats Manwich any day of the week!

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 pound(s) ground beef seasoning
1/4 cup(s) diced onions
1/4 cup(s) diced celery
1/2 cup(s) ketchup
1/4 cup(s) brown sugar
1 teaspoon(s) salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) pepper
1 - 3 tablespoon(s) flour or oatmeal

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef, stirring to crumble it as it cooks.
  • Cook onions and celery in a small amount of water; add to the ground beef. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, salt and pepper.
  • Add water if needed, blending in enough flour or oatmeal to make it "hang together". Continue to simmer until heated through and flavors blend.
