HAM STEAK WITH RED EYE GRAVY image

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 1/2 pound(s) ham steaks, cut 1" thick
2 tablespoon(s) light brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon(s) ground cloves
2 teaspoon(s) instant coffee
1 cup(s) boiling water

Steps:

  • Trim off fat from ham and dice the fat (use butter if there is no fat). Cook fat until you get 2 tablespoons drippings, discard solids. In small bowl combine sugar and cloves, rub into both sides of ham steak. Add to skillet and cook until brown (approximately 2 minutes). Keep warm (cover with foil). In measuring cup, dissolve coffee in boiling water, add to skillet and cook about 10 minutes. (Must be syrupy.) Pour gravy over ham and serve.
