Haluska (Cabbage & Noodles) image

This is comfort food at its best! I believe it's origin is Hungarian and I love to serve it with keilbasa and rye bread.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 c butter
1 large onion, peeled and cut in strips
1 small cabbage, cut in strips
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 (16) oz bag wide egg noodles, cooked and drained
1 pt sour cream, if desired

Steps:

  • 1. Melt the butter in a large pan or pot, large enough to hold the chopped cabbage.
  • 2. Saute the cabbage and the onion in the butter until glossy and tender.
  • 3. Add the salt and pepper.
  • 4. Cover and let the caggage mixture simmer over low heat for about 15 minutes.
  • 5. Add cooked drained egg noodles and mix.
  • 6. Serve with a bowl of sour cream.
  • 7. Add salt to taste.
