Greek New Year's Cake image

What a fun New Year's Day cake! It's moist, light and flavorful. Perfect treat to start the new year. A slice would go nicely with a cup of coffee or tea.

3 c flour
4 eggs separated
1 1/2 c sugar
8 oz butter (1/2 pound)
2 tsp baking powder
2/3 c orange juice
1/2 tsp anise extract (I use tablespoon)
sesame seeds (to sprinkle on top of cake, add as much or as little as you like)
1/4 tsp baking soda

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350.
  • 2. Cream soft butter, sugar and egg yokes.
  • 3. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda alternating with orange juice. Add anise.
  • 4. Beat egg white and fold into batter.
