Grandma's Swiss Steak image

This is my Grandmother's recipe that I grew up with. My mother made it and now I make it. I try to use organic as much as possible, but you don't have to. I hope you enjoy this meal as much as I have through the years. Note: I do not have pictures because I'm doing Weight Watcher's right now, but I will post some when I make this dish again. Thank you!

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pound(s) london broil
1 can(s) organic cream of mushroom soup
1 can(s) water
small package(s) fresh mushrooms (sliced)
1 teaspoon(s) canola oil
1/4 cup(s) flour

Steps:

  • Season steak with salt & pepper (as desired); with a meat mallet, pound flour into steak (or simply coat both sides); then place into a hot oiled skillet until both sides are brown; then remove steak from skillet.
  • Now drain excess oil from skillet and add mushroom soup with 1 can of water to skillet (stir until smooth and bubbly). Once it bubbles, turn heat down to simmer and put steak back into skillet with fresh mushrooms. Cover for 20 minutes.
  • Turn steak over and cover for another 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, remove steak to a platter and cut diagonal strips; stir gravy in pan, pour some over steak and the rest into a gravy boat. Serve with mashed potatoes and a nice green vegetable.
