Goetta Breakfast Casserole image

If you don't know what Goetta is, it's a Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky thing. It's essentially sausage with grains in it, but you can substitute regular breakfast sausage. Go with a crumbly one, like a log of jimmy dean (vs. links or patties). I cooked mine in a round spring form pan (like used for cheesecakes). It made it easier to cut and serve. Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb goetta (or other breakfast sausage)
approx 3 cups frozen shredded hash browns
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
8 eggs
1 and 1/2 cup milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large skillet, cook Goetta until crispy, set on paper towels to soak up some of the fat
  • Add hash browns to skillet and cook until lightly brown.
  • Place hash browns in bottom of lightly greased 9x9-inch pan or round baking dish
  • Next layer sausage and cheese on top of the hash browns
  • Whisk together eggs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and milk.
  • Pour over hash brown mixture.
  • Bake, uncovered, for 35-40 minutes.
