Gluten-Free French Fried Onion Toppings recipe, made healthy by baking in the oven and perfect when topped on green bean casserole

Provided by @MakeItYours

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 medium onion, rings finely sliced
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 cup finely ground almond flour (finely ground cornmeal works as well)
2 egg whites
2 Tablespoons half & half (or dairy-free alternative)
Pinch of salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450° Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper. In a zip top bag, add the onion slices and cornstarch. Seal bag and shake until onions are dusted with starch. In a separate bowl, combine egg whites and half & half. Whisk together for 30-45 seconds. Proceed by dipping a handful of onion slices into the egg mixture, then dredge through almond flour mixture. Continue until all onion slices are finished. Place onion slices across the baking sheet. Bake 14-16 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with salt. **Keep a close eye on the onion rings. It's OK if they turn golden brown on edges, if sliced extremely thin then they will cook faster and can burn if not watching **
