Garam Masala Sloppy Joes image

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium white onion, finely diced
1 tablespoon freshly minced ginger
1 pound ground chicken
1 tablespoon garam masala
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
Coarse salt
Two 8-ounce cans tomato sauce
2 tablespoons honey
Four whole-wheat hamburger buns, split and toasted
Fresh cilantro sprigs, for garnish

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic, onion and ginger and saute until they begin to slightly brown, about 5 minutes. Add the chicken and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until cooked through. Add the garam masala, turmeric and a good pinch of salt and saute another 2 minutes. Add the tomato sauce and honey; continue to let simmer until slightly reduced and thickened, another 5 minutes. Give it another good pinch of salt to taste.
  • Serve with buns and garnish with fresh cilantro sprigs.
