Fried Green Tomatoes image

A crispy and delicious southern favorite.

1/2 c canola oil
4-5 medium green tomatoes, sliced
3/4 c all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp garlic powder
4 large eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 1/2 c panko bread crumbs
1 pinch ground red pepper
1 pinch paprika

Steps:

  • 1. Season the tomato slices on both sides with salt and pepper. Place the flour and garlic powder in a shallow dish.
  • 2. In another shallow dish, beat eggs with the milk. In a third dish, mix bread crumbs with ground red pepper and paprika.
  • 3. Dredge tomato slices through the flour, then the egg mixture, and then through the bread crumbs. Add only a few slices at a time to a non-stick skillet with hot oil. Cook about 2 to 3 minutes. Drain on a paper towel.
