Fried Apples image

Apple season is upon us. Turn those fresh,juicy gems into the best Fried Apples you have ever tasted. Quick & easy with a short ingredient list. I have been making these since 1948 when my mom taught me to do them.

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 large tart apples - cored, sliced (granny smith)
1/4 c bacon drippings or butter
1-1/2 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 c dark brown sugar (packed)
1/8 tsp kosher salt
1-1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp freshly ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • 1. In a large cast iron deep skillet, melt bacon drippings or butter
  • 2. Layer prepared apples evenly over skillet bottom.
  • 3. Sprinkle lemon juice over them, add brown sugar and salt.
  • 4. Cover and cook over low heat for 15 minutes until apples are tender.
  • 5. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • 6. Stir in spices and enjoy
  • 7. Note: Crumble crisp bacon over apples as a garnish when serving.
