EGG STRATA WITH GOAT CHEESE AND HERBS image

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 pound loaf country bread, crusts removed
2 cups crumbled goat cheese, about 1/2 pound
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh chives or green tops of scallions, chopped
5 eggs
1 cup half and half
few dashed of Tabasco
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 stick unsalted butter, melted and cooled

Steps:

  • 1. Butter a 9-inch baking dish.Cut the bread into 1/2 inch thick slices. 2. Mix together goat cheese and Parmesan. In another bowl, stir together the herbs. 3. Arrange a layer of bread slices in the baking dish. Top with a layer of cheese and then a layer of herbs. Repeat the layering until you have 2-3 equal layers. 4. Whisk together eggs, half-and-half, Tabasco, salt and pepper. Pour evenly over bread mixture. Drizzle with the melted butter. 5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. 6. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown and lightly set in the center, about 50 minutes. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
