Easy Beef Pho image

Just like the Vietnames restaurants make

Number Of Ingredients 19

FOR THE BROTH
1 tablespoon(s) olive oil
1 large onion chopped
1 inch piece ginger sliced
3 cinnamon sticks
8 cup(s) beef stock
4 cup(s) water
4 whole star anise
1/2 tablespoon(s) whole cloves
1/4 cup(s) fish sauce
1 tablespoon(s) sugar
FOR THE PHO
12 ounce(s) rice noodles
1 medium shallot chopped
5 scallions sliced on the bias
2 cup(s) bean sprouts
hand ful basil, mint and cilantro chopped
1 pound(s) shaved rib eye steak
2 limes cut into wedges

Steps:

  • For the broth In a large pot heat the olive oil. Add the onion, ginger and cinnamon stick. Cook for about 5 minutes. Add the stock, water, star anise, cloves, fish sauce, and sugar. lower the heat and simmer for 1 hour.
  • Strain the broth and discard the solids. Cook the rice noodles according to package directions. Drain
  • Add a little oil to a pan and cook the shallots for about 3 minutes.
  • Divide the noodles among the bowls. Top with the shallots, raw rib eye, bean sprouts, mint, basil and cilantro. Pour the steaming hot broth over top. The broth will cook the meat. Serve immediately with lime wedges
