Number Of Ingredients 6

3 cup(s) very hot water
2 package(s) active dry yeast
2/3 cup(s) honey
1/2 cup(s) shortening
2 teaspoon(s) salt
8 1/2 cup(s) flour

Steps:

  • Cool water to 110º and add 2 pkg. yeast. Mix yeast and water and let set for 15 minutes, until bubbly. Now add remaining ingredients except flour, to yeast mixture. Add 5 cups of flour and mix completely. Mix in 3 1/2-4 cups more flour and knead about 10 minutes until dough is smooth and has satin like texture. Form into a ball and put back in a bowl. Cover and allow dough to rise until double in bulk or about 1 1/2 hours. Knead down. Put into a well greased Dutch Oven (3 Qt. size). Heavily grease the lid of the Dutch oven on the inside. Let rise until lid is about 1/2 inch above pan. Bake in a 375º oven for 12 minutes. Turn down oven to 350º, remove lid and bake another 30-35 minuts. Remove from Dutch oven and cool on rack.
