Steps:
- Sauté onions in 1 1/2 tablespoons butter in skillet. Toast buns and put onions on half of each on 4 paper plates. Sauté frank halves in remaining butter in skillet. Place on top of onions. Put cheese in skillet with heat off, just to soften; quickly put on each frank. Now top it off with tomatoes and condiments of choice. Serve open-face. (You probably need a knife and fork.)
