Deluxe Three-Bean Bake image

Look out summer! Here come the barbecue grills!!! And what goes better with grilled meat than some juicy, deep-flavored baked beans?

Number Of Ingredients 14

½ pound(s) sliced bacon, cut cross-wise into ¼-½
1 pound(s) ground beef*
- *or omit the beef and double the bacon, or toss in a pork hock...whatever you'd like!
1 package(s) lipton onion soup and recipe mix
½-¾ cup(s) chopped onion
1 16-oz. can(s) pork and beans, not drained
1 15½-oz. can(s) butter beans**, drained and rinsed
1 15½-oz. can(s) cannelloni beans**, drained and rinsed
- **or substitute the equivalent of any other bean(s) you like.
½ cup(s) ketchup
½ cup(s) packed brown sugar (may substutute equal amounts of honey and molasses for half the brown sugar if you wish)
1 tablespoon(s) prepared mustard (of your liking...i use uncle phil's sweet and sassy)
½ teaspoon(s) lawry's seasoned salt
- pepper blend, to taste (i mix ground black, white, and cayenne peppers)

Steps:

  • In Dutch oven cook bacon, hamburger and onion until meats are browned and onion is tender. Drain off any excess fat (although you will want some.)
  • Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Cover and bake at 350°F for 1 hour, or transfer to 4-quart Crock-Pot® and cook on low heat setting for 6 hours (or longer to cook off more of the juice...your choice.) 1 hour before serving (after 5 hours of cooking), taste beans, and adjust seasoning if necessary. Continue cooking for last hour.
