Steps:
- Heat oven to 350F. Pour boiling water over raisins, dates, butter and soda; put aside. Measure flour by dipping method or sifting. Mix flour, sugar and salt; add fruit mixture and remaining ingredients. Beat well. Pour into a greased and floured "1-pound" coffee can. Bake 60-70 minutes. Note: Makes 8 muffins (bake 25-30 minutes). A doubled recipe fits a 9x5-inch loaf pan and bakes in the same amount of time. Freezes nicely.
