Crunchy Onion Rings Authentic Recipe | TasteAtlas image

This recipe, adapted from Allrecipes.com, shows how to make extra crunchy onion rings using breadcrumbs as the final coating

Provided by @MakeItYours

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 large onion
1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 egg
1 cup milk, or as needed
3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
seasoned salt, to taste
1 qt oil for frying, or as needed

Steps:

  • Peel the onions and cut them into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Separate the slices into rings.
  • Combine flour, salt, and baking powder in a small bowl, dip the onion rings, so they are fully coated, and set them aside.
  • Add milk and eggs to the flour mixture and combine well, until the mixture is smooth.
  • Dip the onion rings in batter and leave them to drain on a wire rack.
  • Put the bread crumbs on a shallow plate. Coat the onion rings with bread crumbs.
  • Heat the oil to 365˚F (185˚C) in a deep-fryer. Fry the rings for 2 to 3 minutes, so they become crunchy and golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels, season with salt, and serve.
