Cream Cheese Frosting for Margarita Cupcakes image

The cream-cheese frosting can be made up to one day ahead and refrigerated. Bring back to room temperature and re-beat until smooth before using.

12 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 tablespoons sour cream
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted

Steps:

  • Using an electric mixer, beat cream cheese, butter and sour cream on medium-high until smooth and combined, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in sugar a few tablespoons at a time.
