Country Pie image

Got this from a friend over 30 years ago! Our family still enjoys it when we get together. This is a great supper meal served with a fruit salad!

Number Of Ingredients 14

1/2 c tomato sauce
1/2 c bread crumbs
1/4 c chopped onion
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 lb hamburger
1/4 c chopped greeen pepper - (optional)
1/8 tsp oregano - (optional)
FILLING:
1 1/3 c minute rice
1 1/2 c tomato sauce
1 c water
1/2 Tbsp salt
1 c grated cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • 1. For the crust: mix the hamburger, tomato sauce, bread crumbs, onion, salt & pepper, green pepper & oregano together. Press on sides & bottom of large pie plate.
  • 2. Combine filling ingredients using only 1/4 cup of the cheese. Spoon onto the meat crust. Cover with foil.
  • 3. Bake @ 350 for 25 minutes. Uncover & sprinkle top with remaining cheese. Bake uncovered 10-15 minutes longer or until cheese is melted nicely.
