Cinnamon Coffee Cake image

Sprinkle a cinnamon-sugar topping over tender pieces of coffee cake for a mid-morning treat.

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom only of 9-inch square pan with shortening or spray bottom with cooking spray. In large bowl, stir coffee cake ingredients with spoon just until dry ingredients are moistened. Spread batter in pan.
  • Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Generously pierce hot cake with fork. Brush or drizzle 1/4 cup melted butter over hot cake. In small bowl, mix 3 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon; sprinkle over hot cake. Serve warm.
