Chocolate Sheet Cake image

2 c granulated sugar
2 c sifted all-purpose flour
2 stick butter or margarine
4 Tbsp cocoa, unsweetened
1 c water
1/2 c buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
ICING
1 stick butter or margarine
4 Tbsp cocoa
6 Tbsp buttermilk
Dash salt
1 box sifted confectioners' sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 c chopped pecans

Steps:

  • 1. Sift together sugar and flour.
  • 2. Mix in saucepan the butter, cocoa, and water. Bring to boil; pour over sugar and flour and mix well.
  • 3. Add remaining ingredients. Mix well and pour in a well-greased 11"x16'" pan. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
  • 4. Icing: Mix the following and bring to a boil: butter, cocoa, buttermilk, and salt.
  • 5. Remove from heat and add 1 box of sifted confectioners' sugar, 1 teaspoonful vanilla, and 1 cup chopped pecans. Beat until smooth.
  • 6. Poke holes with toothpick in hot cake. Pour hot icing over hot cake. Cool and cut into squares. Delicious by itself or with ice cream!
