Chocolate Rapture Cake image

This is a recipe I have had since 1954. I use a cream cheese frosting.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 ¾ cups cake flour
1 ½ cups white sugar
¾ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
¾ teaspoon baking soda
½ cup shortening
3 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 cup shredded coconut

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9 inch, round cake pans.
  • Sift together cake flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and soda. Add shortening, chocolate, buttermilk, and vanilla; beat for 2 minutes. Add eggs, and beat for 2 minutes. Stir in coconut. Pour batter into prepared pans.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool, and frost.
