This recipe comes from a cousin of mine (Chef Lynn). She recently went to China and posted this recipe when she got back. Number Of Ingredients 18

8 oz beef steak
5 oz yellow or white onion
5 oz green pepper
4 Tbsp corn or peanut oil, divided
2 tsp thinly sliced ginger
2 tsp thinly sliced garlic
MARINADE:
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp light soy sauce
1 tsp dark soy sauce
2 tsp rice wine
4 tsp cornstarch
several tsp water
SAUCE:
1/2 tsp sugar
2 tsp rice wine
2 tsp light soy sauce
1 tsp black pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Thin slice the beef, onion, green pepper, ginger, and garlic.
  • 2. Mix the marinade ingredients and stir the beef into it. Let sit for about 15 minutes.
  • 3. Place 2 tbsp oil in the wok and get it hot. Just when it starts to smoke, add the green pepper and onion. Stir. Add 1 pinch of salt and keep stirring until the onion is fragrant, about 1 minute. Remove the onion from the pan.
  • 4. **NOTE-If doubling this recipe, hold off adding the garlic and ginger until the last bit of steak is ready to be cooked.** Season the wok with 2 more tbsp oil; then add the ginger and garlic. Stir for about 1 minute to develop the flavor. Then add the beef. Stir slowly until the beef separates and changes color.
  • 5. Add the green pepper and onion back in the pan. Reduce the heat to medium and add the sauce ingredients. Stir for another minute and serve. This dish is great by itself, or served with rice.
