Cavatappi Pomodoro image

Garlic and crushed red pepper create mouthwatering flavor in this classic Italian dish that includes bacon. A tasty, simple, better-for-you idea the whole family will love.

Number Of Ingredients 9

3cups cavatappi, uncooked
2slices OSCAR MAYER Bacon
1small onion, chopped
2cloves garlic, minced
2cans (14.5 oz. each) Italian-style diced tomatoes, drained
1/4cup tomato paste
1/8tsp. crushed red pepper
1cup KRAFT 2% Milk Shredded Italian* Three Cheese Blend
1/4cup chopped fresh basil

Steps:

  • COOK pasta in large saucepan as directed on package. Meanwhile, cook bacon in large skillet until crisp. Remove bacon from skillet, reserving 1 tsp. drippings in skillet. Drain bacon on paper towels.
  • ADD onions to reserved drippings; cook and stir on medium heat 5 min. Stir in garlic; cook 1 min. Add tomatoes, tomato paste and crushed pepper; simmer 5 to 6 min. or until thickened, stirring occasionally.
  • DRAIN pasta; return to pan. Crumble bacon. Add to pasta with sauce; toss to coat. Spoon onto platter; top with cheese and basil.
