Buttermilk Fried Chicken image

My neighbor Donna gave me this recipe over 20 years ago. Our children are the same age, and we would make this recipe for them. They loved it then, and still love it today. Hope you give it a try. It's delicious. My photos

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 lb chicken, cut up
1 1/2 c buttermilk
2 1/2 c all purpose flour
1/2 stick butter
1/3 c vegetable oil
1/4 c chicken broth or water
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Wash chicken pieces, pat dry with paper towel, and place in a large bowl. Pour buttermilk over chicken, and let marinate in refrigerator for 1 hour.
  • 2. Season flour with salt and pepper, place in a shallow dish, and roll chicken in flour mixture to coat.
  • 3. Meanwhile, heat butter and vegetable oil in a large skillet, and brown chicken, turning once.
  • 4. Place chicken in casserole. Pour broth or water around chicken. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour, or until chicken is done. Do not cover casserole.
