Buttercream Icing image

This is a basic vanilla buttercream icing that I have been using for over 35 plus years. It is the base for all different flavored icings that I use on various baking goods.

Number Of Ingredients 5

½ cup unsalted butter, softened
½ cup crisco
¼ cup whole milk
4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • 1. In a mixing bowl, with mixer on medium speed, cream the softened butter and Crisco until well blended.
  • 2. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Beat mixture until light and fluffy; about 2-3 minutes. If icing appears a little too thick, add just a tad more milk; one teaspoon at a time. You do not want it too soft. You want a medium consistency.
  • 3. Chocolate Buttercream Icing: add 2 Tablespoons of Cocoa with the powdered sugar.
