BROWN AND SERVE ROLLS image

Yield 3 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 pkg. dry active yeast
3/4 cup warm water
3/4 cup luke warm milk (scalded and cooled)
1/4 cup sugar
2 1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup Crisco shortening
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Scald milk and set aside to cool. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in all other ingredients, but only 2 1/2 cups of flour. Beat until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl then turn greased side of dough up. Cover with cloth and let rise 90 minutes in a warm place. (you can preheat the oven to a low temp and then shut it off when you put in the dough) Punch down; knead slightly and let rise a second time for 45 minutes in roll pans. Bake in 275 degree oven (preheated) 15-20 minutes. Cool and Freeze. Final Bake at 400 degrees F for 5 - 7 minutes to brown. Can be kept unfrozen in the refrigerator for up to five days.
