BOHEMIA KOLACHES image

My mom and dad used to go to the KOLACHE FESTAVLE in Prague ok. every summer .

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 pkg active dry yeast
1/2 c lukewarm water
2 c lukewarm milk
1/2 c sugar
1 tsp sea salt
6 to 7 c all purpose flour
2 eggs beaten
poppy seeds

Steps:

  • 1. Soak yeast in lukewarm water. Mix milk,sygar, and salt, stir until dissolved.
  • 2. Add 3/4 lb. butter and 2 cups flour Beat well. Add eggs and yeast, blending well.
  • 3. Set aside to rise until spongy and bubbly. Add remaining flour, mix into soft dough.
  • 4. Grease with butter let rise punch down and let rise again.
  • 5. Roll out into 1/2 inch thickness, cut dough into circles using biscuit cutter. Place on greased sheet leaving space between each.
  • 6. Let rise, press small hole in center of each circle. Fill with preserves.
  • 7. Let rise. Bake at 425 degrees for 12 minutes. Makes 5 or 6 dozen
