Blitz Torte image

This was originally a Betty Crocker Recipe...This cake is the Bomb.

Number Of Ingredients 12

4 eggs, separated
1 c granulated sugar
1/2 c shortening
3/4 c confectioners' sugar
3 Tbsp milk
1 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c sliced almonds
2 Tbsp granulated sugar
2 c any ready to serve vanilla pudding
if your using a self rising flour omit baking powder and salt

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 325 degrees.Grease and flour to 8 in layer pans.Beat egg whites until foamy. Beat in 1 cup of granulated sugar. 1 tsp at a time,continue beating until stiff and glossy. DO NOT underbeat. Set aside.
  • 2. Measure shortening, 3/4 c.confectioner's sugar, egg yolks, and milk into a large mixer bowl. Blend 1/2 minute on low, scraping constantly. Add flour, baking powder and salt; beat 1 minute on medium, scraping bowl occassionaly, Spread in pans.
  • 3. Spread 1/2 the meringue on batter in each pan; sprinkle each with 1/2 the almonds, then with 1 tablespoon granulated sugar.
  • 4. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until the meringue is set. Let cool.
  • 5. With Spatula, carefully remove layers from pans. Fill layers, meringue side up, with pudding. Chill for at least 1 hour.
