Blintz Torte image

This is a very good cake. My great Aunt use to bake this when she lived with us.

Number Of Ingredients 16

1/2 cup(s) butter
1/2 cup(s) sugar
4 - egg yolks, reserve whites
5 tablespoon(s) milk
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
1 cup(s) flour
1 teaspoon(s) baking powder
4 - egg whites stiffly beaten
1 cup(s) sugar
1 1/2 cup(s) almonds, sliced
FILLING
1 cup(s) milk
1 teaspoon(s) sugar
1 tablespoon(s) butter
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
1 teaspoon(s) corn starch, heaping

Steps:

  • Beat together the butter, sugar and egg yolks. Add milk, vanilla, flour and baking powder. Mix well. Put in 2 pans as you would do for a layer cake. Add sugar to beaten egg whites. Spread this on the layers. Sprinkle with nuts and bake like layer cake for 30 to 35 minutes. In a 350 oven.
  • For filling: Bake ingredients like custard and spread between cooled layers.
