Steps:
- Make the ganache first. In a 2 qt. glass bowl or other microwavable dish, heat the chocolate and cream in the microwave until melted (1-2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds). Stir in butter and vanilla, and then cover and refrigerate for 1 1/2 hours or until ganache is spreadable. To make the cake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 2 9" pans. In a large bowl, mix butter and sugar with electric mixer on medium for 1-2 minutes, until mixed. Add the egg, vanilla,and mix until well blended. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda and salt and add into the chocolate mixture in two additions, alternating with the buttrmilk. Beat the mixture on low and then add the boiling water and beat until smooth. Pour the batter, which will be thin into the greased pans and bake for 35-40 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes, and after cool, place the first layer on a cake plate and add a layer of the ganache. Place the second cake layer on top and spread top and sides with ganache. Can decorate with slivered almonds, if desired.
