Betty's Apple Crisp image

One of my personal favorites. This is my mother's recipe, and it is best served with vanilla ice cream.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c all purpose flour
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 c butter, room temperature
5 c (5-6) granny smith apples

Steps:

  • 1. Mix sugar, flour, spices and salt. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.
  • 2. Peal, core and slice apples.
  • 3. Spread apples over the bottom of buttered 8 or 9 inch square baking pan.
  • 4. Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples. Pat lightly with fingers.
  • 5. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until apples are tender.
