Benne Wafers image

this is NOT my own recipe, just one that was given to me by a friend. BUT, I just made them again this morning and was reminded of how yummy they are and had to share. I cannot take credit, but I do hope you like them!

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup(s) sesame seeds
3/4 cup(s) butter, melted
1 1/2 cup(s) packed brown sugar
1 - egg
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
1 cup(s) flour
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) baking powder

Steps:

  • yummy, Benne Wafers. these cookies (wafers) are so crunchy and yummy. who'd have ever thought sesame seeds would make a great cookie. preheat oven to 375. toast sesame seeds (I do it on the stove top in a large pan, be careful not to burn them. in large bowl, mix brown sugar, melted butter, egg, vanilla, flour, salt, baking powder and sesame seeds until combined. chill dough for about 30 minutes. roll into small balls and put on lightly greased baking sheet (I use parchment paper). bake at 375 about 6 minutes. I spin the tray halfway through the cooking time. cool on cookie sheet for about 60-90 seconds before moving to cooling rack. here are before and after pics/ YES, they are supposed to be "wafer" thin. don't make the cookie balls too big, they will spread out a lot. before and after pics should be here, hope you can see them.
