Beets in Orange sauce image

I really like this for a change I grow beets every year and I always pickle them. I think of this as more of a Christmas dinner item, probably the color.

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 small beets, fresh , ( canned)
1/4 c sugar
2 tsp cornstarch
dash pepper
1 c orange juice
1 medium orange, halved-sliced
1/2 tsp orange peel, grated

Steps:

  • 1. Place Beets in a large saucepan; cover with water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and cook for25-30 minutes or until tender. Drain and cool slightly. Peel and slice; place ina serving dish and keep warm.
  • 2. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch and pepper, stir in the orange juice until smooth. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minuted or until thickened. Removefrom the heat; stir in orange Slices and peel. Pour over beets.
