Beef Stew image

My kids didn't like tomato based stews. I ran across this recipe from an old A-1 recipe booklet that I modified. Even my picky husband liked this one.

1-1/2 lb beef stew meat
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
3 bouillon cubes, dissolved in 3 cups boiling water
3 Tbsp a-1 steak sauce
1-1/2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp thyme, dried
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp salt
1 bay leaf
4 carrots cut in 1 inch slices
4 potatoes, cut in 1 inch chunks
1/2 onion, quartered
1 pkg frozen peas

Steps:

  • 1. Place 3 cups water in saucepan and heat to boiling. Drop in bouillon cubes to melt.
  • 2. Meanwhile, Heat vegetable oil over medium heat and brown stew meat.
  • 3. Place carrots, potatoes and onion in bottom of crockpot.
  • 4. Add browned stew meat on top of vegetables.
  • 5. Check bouillon cubes to see if they have dissolved. If not crush until all is dissolved.
  • 6. Add A-1, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, pepper and salt. Pour over stew meat in crockpot; add bay leaf. Cook for 8-10 hours.
