My grandmother had Type 1 Diabetes and always had to watch what she ate. During the summers I would visit, I always asked for this dish and ate my weight in it. I could not get enough of it and at the time, I was not too keen on veggies so it worked for both of us. I don't even know if anyone will be impressed with it as it's...

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb dry pinto beans
2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 lb ground beef
1 pkg onion soup mix
1 small can tomato sauce
1 Tbsp chili powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 small garlic clove, chopped

Steps:

  • 1. Soak beans overnight. The next morning put them in a pot with 3 quarts of water and salt and turn on to get a nice slow boil.
  • 2. Meanwhile, brown the meat in the oil and then add all the other remaining ingredients with the meat. Add the meat mixture to the beans. Cook for 2 hours or until the beans are tender.
