Batter Bread (Killeen ISD Recipe) image

There are several things the cafeteria at our schools made that I looked forward to. This is one of them!

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/4 c warm water
1 pkg active dry yeast
1/4 c sugar
1 c scalded milk
1/3 c melted butter
2 eggs, beaten
2 3/4 c flour
1 tsp salt
1 c oats or whole wheat

Steps:

  • 1. Sprinkle yeast over warm water, let dissolve. Stir in sugar. Add milk, melted butter (cooled), and eggs.
  • 2. Sift together flour and salt. Add 1/2 to the above mixture, beat well with mixer on medium. Mix remaining flour and oats, add to batter, and mix thoroughly.
  • 3. Spread into greased cookie sheet, 11x16x1". Let rise in warm place until double in bulk, about 1 hour.
  • 4. Bake at 375 degrees about 25-30 minutes. Serve hot with butter.
