Barbecued Lamb Shanks image

I just came across this recipe. I haven't made this in years but it will on the menu soon.

Number Of Ingredients 11

4 - lamb shanks
2 tablespoon(s) vegetable oil
2 - onions, sliced
3/4 cup(s) ketchup
1 1/2 cup(s) water
2 teaspoon(s) salt
1 tablespoon(s) worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup(s) cider vinegar
1/4 cup(s) brown sugar, firmly packed
1 teaspoon(s) prepared mustard
dash(es) cayenne

Steps:

  • Brown the shanks in oil in a heavy pot or dutch oven. Pour off fat. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer for about 2 hours, spooning some of the sauce over the meat several times during the cooking. If desired, shanks can be baked, covered, in the oven (350) for about 2 hours.
  • These are really good served with rice.
